Friends of Transit for Kalamazoo County works to influence transit system to be responsive to community needs. Our vision has always been:  Public transportation that is available countywide.  No one is excluded.

  • Public transportation that is available 7 days a week, including holidays.
  • Public transportation that begins and ends at times that give shift workers access to jobs.
  • Bus schedules and fare rates posted at every bus stop, with user guides available in public places to make transit easy to use.
  • Express routes developed and utilized to promote efficiency.
  • A flexible system that responds to change and promotes innovation.
  • Regular reports on performance provided to the public.

Lawmakers Take a Ride on Metro Bus

Friends of Transit coordinated this event on January 26. 2015 for lawmakers in Kalamazoo County. Thank you to Representative Jon Hoadley and Senator Margaret O’Brien and Representative Aric Nesbitt’s Legislative Director Jennifer Humphries for participating!

It was a fun and informative event for everyone.  Thank you to Transit Director Sean McBride for helping us all understanding how transit is funded.

Major Kalamazoo-area bus routes could be eliminated as townships balk on millage request

With a millage request to support fixed-route bus services now scheduled for August, the clock is ticking for three Kalamazoo County municipalities to decide if they will join the taxing district and avoid losing major routes within their boundaries.

ISAAC Gets Behind Transportation Concerns

After residents of Pavilion Township's mobile home park, Pavilion Estates, requested  transportation to the area, several local organizations cooperated to create a three-month Metro Transit Route Extension that will be in place for the residents. If the route is well-used, it will continue.

Friends of Transit, Metro Transit Kalamazoo and Kalamazoo County Transportation Authority (KCTA) were among these organizations.
